Each year, Southlake Health identifies equipment that has reached the end of its service life and requires replacement, whether due to age, frequent use in our busy hospital, or advancements in technology that offer a higher standard of care. Donor-funded equipment in 2024-25 included:
Three new mammography machines, the MyoSure System (innovative technology that supports minimally invasive surgeries for female reproductive cancers), and the MOLLI 2® System (a minimally invasive, made-in-Canada wire-free breast cancer localization technology for breast cancer surgery), all supporting women’s health in our communities. Read more about how community donors, including the Ladies in Philanthropy for Southlake (LiPS), are helping Southlake advance women’s cancer care here.
Various scopes, including endoscopes, specialized bariatric scopes, hysteroscopes (for examining the cervix and uterus), and ureteroscopes (to address kidney stones). These medical devices are long, flexible tubes equipped with a light source and a small camera, used to perform minimally invasive procedures in our Surgical Program that examine organs and other internal body structures. High-resolution images are indispensable to our medical teams when delivering safe and precise diagnoses and treatments.
A UV TEE reprocessing machine used in our Regional Cardiac Care Program for diagnostics. Medical staff use a specialized TEE (transesophageal echocardiogram) probe inserted into a patient’s throat in conjunction with an echo machine to capture ultrasound images of the heart. This ancillary equipment facilitates an efficient and safe sterilization process, enabling faster procedure turnaround times while protecting healthcare technicians from exposure to harmful chemicals. This, in turn, enables us to see more patients and reduce wait times for procedures.
We are grateful to community donors for funding these key pieces of equipment, as well as many others, to support our talented and dedicated clinical teams as they care for our loved ones, friends, and neighbours.
