Honouring the Heroes Behind the Care

A meaningful way our communities say, “Thank you.”

Every day at Southlake Health, extraordinary care is made possible by our people — physicians, nurses, clinicians, staff, and volunteers — who show up with compassion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to their patients and each other.

Over the past year, our community found a powerful way to recognize those efforts through the Heroes of Southlake program.

This unique initiative gives patients and families the opportunity to express their gratitude in a lasting way: by making a donation in honour of a member of the Southlake Family who made a difference in their care. Each gift not only celebrates an individual or team, but also helps advance the very care they provide by funding equipment and technology that they rely on.

Over the past year, this meaningful expression of appreciation inspired our communities to recognize more than 100 Heroes of Southlake and raise over $172,000 in donations, reflecting both the generosity of our communities and the deep connections formed within Southlake.

For those who are recognized, the impact is profound.

“I feel deeply honoured with this recognition and proud I could offer comfort to someone on their stressful day,” shared Cindy, a Registered Nurse in the Regional Cardiac Care Program.

Across Southlake, recipients, from frontline clinical staff to vital support teams, have expressed how much these moments of gratitude mean to them. Whether it’s a nurse supporting a patient through a difficult diagnosis, a maintenance team member ensuring safe and welcoming spaces, or a mental health professional offering steady care in challenging moments, each recognition serves as a reminder that their work truly matters.

“I feel very honoured and respected being recognized for my role,” said Trent, a Registered Practical Nurse in the Mental Health Program. “Working alongside my colleagues makes all the difference, no matter how challenging the day can be.”

For donors, the program offers an opportunity to reflect on care that changed their lives, or the life of someone they love, and to say thank you in a way that extends that impact to others.
